The Africa South East Asia Chamber of Commerce welcomes a significant milestone achieved by its member, Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), which on 23 April 2026 signed a Host Country Agreement to establish its first regional office in Nairobi in partnership with the Government of Kenya.
The agreement, signed during The Africa We Build Summit, marks a strategic expansion of AFC’s presence in East Africa, positioning Nairobi as a key hub for infrastructure financing, industrial development, and cross-border investment activities.
AFC plans to deploy and mobilize more than US$2 billion over the next three to five years, focusing on high-impact sectors such as transport and trade corridors, energy and power transmission, special economic zones, digital infrastructure, and climate-resilient projects. The Nairobi office will serve as a full-service platform for originating, structuring, and executing transactions, while supporting capital mobilization and innovative financing solutions.
Nairobi’s growing role as a regional logistics, financial, and technology hub — combined with the strong growth trajectory of the East African Community — makes it a natural base for scaling investment and facilitating regional integration. The move also reflects increasing investor confidence in East Africa as a dynamic and high-potential economic corridor.
Since Kenya joined AFC in 2017, the Corporation has committed over US$1.3 billion to projects across energy, transport, and industrial development. Notable initiatives include support for key infrastructure and industrial zones, as well as the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
From the Chamber’s perspective, AFC’s expansion underscores the importance of strong institutional platforms in unlocking bankable infrastructure opportunities and driving sustainable development. It also highlights the growing potential for deeper collaboration between Africa and Southeast Asia — particularly in infrastructure investment, industrialization, and digital connectivity.
The Africa South East Asia Chamber of Commerce congratulates AFC on this important achievement and looks forward to supporting initiatives that strengthen economic ties, facilitate investment flows, and promote long-term partnerships between the two regions.
